What does the term ‘Gleichschaltung’ mean?
How did Propaganda, education and Gleichschaltung transform social
and economic life in Germany? Think about how the following aspects of life
were transformed;
- Work
- Leisure and Sports
- Entertainment
- Family and home life
- Schools and Universities
Note that in this unit I will be assessing criterion 5, which
is ‘assess drivers of social, economic
and political change and nature and impact of changes in modern history.’ We
have already looked at the political transformation that Germany underwent,
from a democracy to a dictatorship. But you will also need to be able to
discuss the economic and social life of Germans, and how their lives were
changed so dramatically under the Nazi regime.
